"LUMBER SPONDYLITIS(BACK PAIN)

LUMBAR SPONDYLOSIS”(BACK PAIN)

Acute back pain can happens at anytime especially in those leading a sedentary Lifestyle, overweight, lack of exercise, due to sprain or strain of muscles and tendons. The pain becomes so agonized that a person can't move at all. Application of heat or cold compress, ointment, natural remedies and rest, facilitates recovery. But the spinal pain in the waist region is called the low backache. It is mainly caused by to sit long hours in uncomfortable car seat or in office chairs. When this happens day to day; the painful spasm of muscles happens and it becomes more or less permanent.
   As a person becomes old ;degenerative changes happens as osteoarthritis of the vertebral joint. In which disc space is reduced (mainly L4 L5). It is also called Lumbar spondylosis. Calcaneal spur or osteophyte may also happens and nerve may involve. It's a painful situation, sometime pain is fixed only on lumbar area but as an involvement of nerves- pain may radiate to hips and below.


Faulty way of eating is a big cause of it. So diet control and yogasana is required as written in the definition of arthritis. Sitting posture should be treated day by day. Bad posture for a long time is also a big cause of lumbar pain. Vayu mudra is also good for lumbar
area.
ACUPRESSURE:
Pressure on back side of wrist is given as shown. Pain is found in a particular point and it should be pressed two minutes twice a day. The web between Thumb and forefinger should also be pressed for few minutes for pain relief. Red colour on this area can also apply for immediate relief.

EXERCISES OF THORACIC & LUMBAR SPINE:
LYING:
  • Knees flexed, feet on floor -tilt pelvis backwards and flatten the lumbar spine.
  • As above, abdominal muscles contract to lift pelvis just off the floor/plinth  (without contacting the gluteus) hold and lower.
  • As above pelvis raise and lower.
  • As above pelvis raise- pass ball from hand to hand under the lumbar spine.
  • As above, abdominal muscles contract, head and shoulders raise- stretch hands towards knees, hold and lower slowly.
  • As above, knees roll slowly from side to side.
  • As above, hands on shoulders- abdominal muscles contract, head and shoulders raise and turn to touch right knee with left elbow, repeat to the opposite side.
Prone lying- 
  • abdominal muscles contract to raise lumbar spine and lower.
  • Prone lying- head and shoulders raise and lower.
  • Side lying with knees and hips flexed to a right angle- pelvis and legs raise and lower.
  • Side lying- head and shoulders raise slide upper arm down top leg and lower.


SITTING:

  • Pelvis tilt backwards and forwards.
  • Alternate hip hitching.
  • Abdominal muscles contract and hold stretch tall.
  • Fingers on shoulders, trunk turn from side to side.
  • Arms stretched  sideways, trunk turn from side to side.
  • Trunk curl forwards and stretch up.

  • Fingers on shoulders trunk bend side to side.
  • Arms stretched above head, trunk bend side to side.






STANDING:

Trunk bend from side to side, arms at the side, then repeat with fingers on shoulders, then arms out to side or stretched upwards.


  • Trunk,  hips and knees bend to curl forwards and stretch up tall with arms stretched up.
  • Bend hips and knees (quarter to third way),   pelvis tilt forward and back, pull abdominal muscles in and straighten up.
  • Feet apart, alternate hip up drawing (progress by adding strap- on weights round the ankle).


HOMEOPATHY(PERFECT MEDICATION)
1)Rhus tox: It is the first remedy to think of in which movement gives relief in all muscular or joint pain. Two drops thrice a day. According to Dr. H. G. Jhari.
2) Pulsatilla 30 or 200: Most of the cases will be cured by rhus tox otherwise pulsatilla, in which wandering pain shift rapidly from one part to another and redness swelling of the joints. According to Dr. H. G. Jhar.
3) Causticum 200:  Painful stiffness of the back and sacrum, especially on rising from a chair. Two drops twice a week. According to Dr. Nash.
4)Hypericum 200: In case of spinal injury, two drops twice a week. According to Dr. Farmington.
5)Antim crud is also useful in arthritis deformans, according to Dr. Schwartz.
6) Antim tart 6: Backache  as from fatigue, especially after eating and while sitting, violent sacro  lumbar pain, the slightest effort to move causing retching and cold clammy sweets, sensation as a weight hanging on coccyx and dragging downwards. The dosage recommend as in every 6 hours. According to J. H. Clarke, M.D.
7)Arnica 200 or 1m: twice a week in case of injury.
8)Bryonia 200: Lumbago accompanied by Constipation and aggravation by movement requires  this medicine twice a week.
9) Berberis Vulgaris tincture: Backache accompanied by urinary troubles .ten drop thrice a day in little water.
10) Aesculus Hippie 30: Backache  accompanied by piles and Constipation, two drops thrice a day.
