"HICCOUGH & HOLISTIC TREATMENT"

6. HICCOUGH

It is a spasmodic and involuntary contraction of the diaphragm (a dome shaped muscle located between the stomach and chest that helps the breathing process).

Symptoms: A sudden tightening of the diaphragm which produces hiccuping! noise when it contracts the epiglottis (a valve muscle in the throat which helps in the swelling of food or directing the air to the lungs).This disorder may last from a few minutes up to years. Causes are really not known. it is thought that hiccups can be produced through eating very fast or by swallowing too much air while eating.


ACUPRESSURE:

Pressure on   the first knot of middle finger or bring tongue outside the mouth for one to two minutes and hold it.


YOGASANA:

Inhale and swallow technique; inhale through your mouth as much as you can. Then swallow your saliva without letting any air go out. Inhale through the mouth again and swallow  again, not letting any air slip. Do this as many time as you can. It may get tough and tougher but don't stop. You will reach a moment when you will feel that you cannot swallow the saliva anymore. When you are sure that you can’t go ahead absolutely, release the air through your nose. This resets your breathing.


HOMEOPATHY:

  • Ginseng tincture is the head remedy, two drop thrice a day in  water.

  • Nux Vomica 30- due to gastric disturbances.

  • Moschus 3-In hysterical case

  • Hyoscyamus 30- after operation, after eating meat at evening (Kent)

  • Cuprum ars 30- Obstinate hiccough

  • Cicuta 30:loud sound.

  • Lycopodium 30-tongue comes out and contracts-can not eat cabbage.


HOME REMEDIES:

  • Swallow a half cup of sugar slowly. It has been found that in some way sugar  blocks the nerves that move the diagram.

  • Gargle with water.

  • Drink a glass of water lying down or with the head tilted download.

  • Hold your breathe for as  long as possible.

  •  Swallow crushed  ice.

  • Place a bag with ice on the stomach for a few minutes.

  • Chew and swallow  dry bread.

  • suck a lemon.
