Hasta uttanasana (Raised arms pose- 2)
Breathing in, lift the arms up and back, keeping the biceps close to the ears. In this pose, the effort is to stretch the whole body up from the heels to the tips of the fingers. It is the 2nd position of surya namaskara. Physically its awareness will be on the throat, on the stretch of the abdomen and expansion of the lungs. Spiritually its awareness will be on Vishuddhi Chakra where sixteen petals of blue lotus are visualized. It is also called the centre of purification. Its element is ether or akasha or space. Its mantra is "om raviyay namah."Its beeja mantra is H-a-a-a-M.
Benefits: It stimulates Thyroid and Parathyroid glands and plays an important role in growth of the child's body. It digests calcium and phosphorus and eliminates toxins. It also controls heat of the body and thus maintains health. Underworking gives dullness, weakness, twisting of muscles, rickets, convulsions etc. Over working will give bulging eyes, Adam's apple and tendency to become a bully. If this gland does not function properly after puberty it may give calcification-stone. It helps to build human qualities such as affection, love, high thinking, concentration, self control, balanced temperament, purity of heart and unselfishness.The bulging place of palm and sole below thumb should be pressed twice a day for two minutes in a pumping way to stimulate vishuddhi chakra.
